The Motivated Millennial Story
Way back in 2012, a disillusioned and unemployed millennial named Hannah Becker was tired of receiving (seemingly) endless rejection letters and “not hiring” notices. How was she to pay her bills (including those pesky student loans) and feed her family if there were no jobs to be had? Thus, broke and hungry, Hannah decided to create her own job – and jobs for a few other unemployed millennials – and started a business in the middle of the Great Recession.
One business led to another, and then another.
While Hannah couldn’t “fix” the financial collapse echoing across our nation, she could create a few jobs that fed a few families – and it felt amazing.
Pioneering a new way of life – a #workfromwhereever mentality – that fell in marked contrast to the traditional 9-to-5’s of yesteryear, Hannah sought a platform to connect with like-minded millennials and share their entrepreneurial pursuits. After a few glasses of wine and Arianna Huffington’s latest book, The Motivated Millennial was born.
Originally just a small blog, hosted through a free web platform, The Motivated Millennial posted monthly, sharing the good, the bad, and all the ugly of life as a millennial entrepreneur.
While the initial vision was small, the blog’s message spread quickly across entrepreneurial circles, landing multiple media spotlights and building an impressive social following. Over the next few years, The Motivated Millennial evolved into a thriving online community, complete with books and courses, guest contributors, and networking groups for today’s Generation Y professional.
